Influenza, or more commonly called the flu, is a serious infectious disease that can spread fast through the coughs and sneezes of people who are carrying the influenza virus. The flu can cause serious complications requiring hospitalization, and even resulting in death. It can hit anyone – it does not matter how fit, active or healthy you may be.
The most effective way to protect yourself and others from the flu is to get the flu shot each year in the fall. The flu shot is free of charge in the NWT.
Children can receive the flu vaccine through a nasal spray. This is available in all NWT communities. The nasal spray is free of charge in the NWT.
