GNWT launches new mental wellness magazine

YELLOWKNIFE (May 6, 2014) – Minister of Health and Social Services Glen Abernethy today launched Mind & Spirit, a wellness magazine to raise awareness of mental health.  The magazine will help inspire people to talk about mental health as it shares success stories of individuals dealing with and overcoming mental health and addiction issues.  It also provides information on the services that are available to residents seeking help.

“The Government of the Northwest Territories is committed to helping NWT residents live full, healthy lives,” said Minister Abernethy. “Providing the tools and supports people need to help them overcome mental health and addictions issues is a priority for our government. This magazine is another resource that will help residents make the choices and find the supports they need to continue on their path towards wellness.”

Mental illness directly or indirectly affects all of us. We have either experienced it or have seen a family member, friend or colleague deal with it. No one is immune. Mental illness can affect you regardless of your age, your culture, or your education and income level.

The magazine will be distributed throughout the NWT. A web-version of the magazine is also available on the Department of Health and Social Services website at: www.hss.gov.nt.ca.
