Results of “A Conversation on Community Safety”

City of Yellowknife Crest RCMP Crest

YELLOWKNIFE (October 16, 2013) – On October 3, 2013, citizens of Yellowknife came together with representatives responsible for public safety to discuss issues of concern in the capital city.

Minister of Justice Glen Abernethy, Yellowknife Health and Social Services Authority CEO Les Harrison and Mayor Mark Heyck gave opening statements, along with RCMP Commanding Officer Wade Blake and Yellowknife Inspector Frank Gallagher.  The two-hour session was moderated by MLA Wendy Bisaro.

As a result of these discussions, working groups will come together from across the organizations to address issues and discuss solutions.

Community members who were unable to attend will be able to access transcripts from the session after October 21, 2013, at www.justice.gov.nt.ca and www.yellowknife.ca.  Further comments and suggestions for potential solutions can also be made at the links.

The organizations involved agreed to come together with the public to meet and hold further conversations about progress made in the new year.
